What if all creation?
I always get a bit of a spiritual high during Lent. Perhaps it’s all that incense at the church services. Or maybe it’s just the season. Whatever, I’ve been thinking about the one-ness of everything. About the “love your neighbour as yourself” thing. The even more radical “love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you” thing.
It’s impossible that much loving kindness. But I suppose I might practice. And what better way to begin than with words. So.. This…
what if no one is despicable
only so shattered
we can’t see the light shining
through the splinters
not even darkly
what if all creation is truly fashioned
in your image
by your hands
breathed to life by spirit
whole and holy
what if inside that activist
that policeman
that homeless person
that orange turd in the florid pot
there’s only a poor worm
frightened and resisting
what if we could all see
the You we’re meant to be
the most lovely
loving being
winged and lifting

Beautiful reflection, Audrey. It’s a valuable reminder that we’re all human with our flaws and vulnerabilities and we need to be kind to one another. Thank you for sharing.
Good to hear from you Audrey – and we need more people feeling this way in the world.
Thanks Mary.
