Awaiting Mid-Autumn: When words fail, open the windows and breathe…

12th day of the 8th moon in the year of the water dragon … and what a watery day it’s been.

I woke up to a drizzle. By mid-morning, we had a windy hard plopping equatorial deluge.  The storm tantrummed itself out by tea-time, but now it’s hazy. I don’t know if it’s residual moisture hanging about, or the ashes of burning rain forests blown across the Malacca Straits from Sumatra.  What I do know for sure, there’ll be no moon viewing tonight.

Sometimes, things get in the way of communion. At times like that, it’s best to just open ourselves and be.

Rumi, that wonderful Sufi, has some words for that –

At night, I open the window

At night, I open the window and ask the moon
to come and press its face against mine.

To breathe into me.

Close the language-door and open the love-window.
The moon won’t use the door, only the window.

When have the barriers between ourselves and others got so high and so thick words don’t work?

When that happens, sit and close your eyes. Breathe out enmity. Breathe in the moon.

I’ll be sitting and breathing with all of you, the moon in my mind’s eye.  I’m waiting for your moon poems. Do share …
